I would like to see the Flex SDK ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

    • provide much better HTML integration

Flex integrates very well into HTML, thanks to ExternalInterface and the whole JavaScript bridging thing.
But the other way around is still a big pain and there's no viable option to implement things like a visual HTML email editor or a mini-Word inside a web application. RichTextEditor is just a shame, iFrame-based workaround are not portable, and Webkit integration is only available in AIR. We need to find a way to integrate a real HTML renderer into the Flash plugin with corresponding components in the Flex SDK, even if it means making it possible to install extensions onto the Flash…

      • Provide global error handling

There is currently no way to prevent uncaught RTEs from being displayed to users with the debug player, or simply being swallowed for everyone else. Uncaught RTEs can cause an application to become very unstable, and while liberal use of try...catch might help, you can't catch errors that occur asynchronously. I know there might be some Flash Player limitations involved, but us Flex guys are the ones suffering the most... and don't you all work for the same company anyway?

        • Have a governing committee

I'd like some say in who is driving this train. My recommendation would be for a dozen committee members voted on by members of the Flex Community.

          • Is it time to start flex 5?

In the discussion today on the flex community forum Heidi Williams said in a response to the question "how can we get involved" that the structure of the project is pretty well set for flex 4. And that the changes which include the open community involvement will likely happen in the flex 5 time frame. Flex 5 is supposed to include a re-write of the framework to make it more light weight.

So the question is do we try to make enough noise to try to get them to open up the process for flex 4. Or do we start…

            • Is this the right place for community feedback

Is having something for the community that is not controlled by the community a good idea? What are your thoughts.

              • have community teams

There are lots of ways the community can support the Flex SDK. But fixes, planning, documentation on the wiki. There are already individuals on the flex team that are responsible for these tasks but with help from the community we can get more done.

I propose a set of contribution teams that would be led by one or more adobe personnel but with discussion on a public forum. Each them would then have community members that lead also. And anyone can provide input on the topics because the discussion is public.
